Assistant Quantity Surveyor
We are recruiting on behalf of our client who is a major supplier within the modular industry who are based in Driffield. Our Client provides their clients with a full turnkey service to design, finance, build, equip, operate and hire amazing healthcare, education, defence, accommodation and work spaces. Their focus on customer experience and building performance means that they provide better, faster and more affordable solutions with less carbon. With all that in mind and with fast expansion our client are looking to expand the team and are looking to recruit permanently for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
Main Purpose of the role/Key objectives
The right candidate must have full oversight of a portfolio of projects, ensuring all commercial aspects and requirements are managed and reported on in an effective way to ensure all projects are running effectively and in line with the commercial strategy
Manage the Commercial team and directly report to the Commercial Director on all commercial activities relating to their relevant portfolio of works
Ensure all relevant projects have the right resources and support to ensure the projects achieve their objectives of being on time, on budget, to the required quality and Health and Safety standards.
Accountabilities
Cost performance, control and reporting of projects in the portfolio to agreed budgets.
Accurate and timely valuation of works and provision of information to support cash collection
Ensure supply chain are properly resourced to meet the production targets
Commercial integration between pre-con, site and the factory for the entire portfolio, reporting to the teams involved with regards to any lessons learnt.
Accountable for the wellbeing, engagement and management of all team members within the portfolio.
Accuracy, completeness, control and management of packages in the portfolio, including definition of the clients requirements e.g. quality, environment, health and safety
Accuracy, completeness, control and management of sub-contracts in the portfolio
Ensure all projects budgets and forecasts are accurately reported on and information is shared with Commercial Director and Finance Director
Follow the commercial processes and procedures
Roles and responsibilities
Liaising with operation, design, and project management teams regarding projects and establishing budgets and commercial principals
Supporting the Commercial Director with development plans and targets
First point of contact for all commercial team queries and escalate to Commercial Director as required
Monitor and report to the Commercial Director on the progress of your portfolio of projects. including regular programme and budget updates
Identify potential issues before they arise and flag to the Commercial Director
Managing and overseeing on aspects of tendering and procurement, subcontract/supply chain management, contract sum analysis and change control of projects.
Ensuring processes are working and adapting them where necessary
Ensure monthly CVRs are compiled, reported on in a timely manner in line with the overall commercial strategy
Ensure portfolio compliance with all our clients standards systems
Challenge the status quo, be an agitator of change, coming up with new ways of working and make them into SOPs
Source materials as required
Solve problems in a timely fashion
Use BIM platforms to ensure all team members are working from the correct drawings and to share amendments with all relevant parties
Use BIM models for information, discussing the model with the team to inform consequent execution of work.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience
Industry specific degree or equivalent, preferably in Quantity Surveying or working towards
Experience with modular buildings a plus
Confidence in speaking and presenting
To manage and hold to account when required
Experience in a QS/SQS role
Professional membership is advantageous
Experience in effectively driving multiple programmes
Microsoft office proficient
