Latest Employment Statistics

The Office for National Statistics has released its latest numbers in regard to employment and wages and things are looking up. In this blog, we’re looking at the highlights from this recent study.

Here are the key statistics:

  • Employment has risen to its highest since 1971 at 75.8%.
  • For the first time ever, the unemployment rate for women has dropped below 4%.
  • It’s estimated there are 32.6 million employed.
  • Unemployment changed slightly with an estimated 1.36 million unemployed.
  • Average weekly wages have risen by 3.4% to an average of £494.50.

Our Analysis

Looking at these, it would appear that the doubt around Brexit has not had a major impact on employment and wages. However, with the exit date drawing nearer, we can expect to see fluctuations occurring as businesses try to pre-emptively prepare for Brexit.
